How to make speech on Teacher’s Day

How to make speech on Teacher’s Day

Some basic Tips for Speech Making

  • Check how you look. Dress appropriately, and be well groomed, so you feel comfortable and smart. Dressing professionally also helps the audience feel you've taken trouble for them and that they are respected. But make sure you don't go too far and unintentionally distract them, for example, with a man's flashy tie or a woman's low neckline.
  • Before you go on, chat to people in your audience. It will help create a warmer, more friendly atmosphere.
  • As you're waiting to be announced, repeat your opening sentence three or four times to distract you from your nervousness and to give you the confidence of a sure start.
  • To help relax from head to toe, take three deep slow breaths - in through nose - out through mouth with your hand on your stomach as it expands and contracts.
  • When starting, pause for 1-2 seconds to establish yourself.
  • Stand upright and relaxed.
  • Pleasantly acknowledge a friendly face nearby.
  • Smile. Smiling shows warmth for the audience and is rarely misinterpreted.
  • Make eye contact with the audience, momentarily from one to another as a way of showing interest in them.
  • Engage with animated listeners - but not too much.
  • Scan the audience, and don't miss anyone, anywhere, ever.
  • Occasionally start a sentence looking at one section of the audience and finish looking at another section.
  • Too shy to look straight at individuals? Until your confidence grows, try looking at the spaces between them.

Teachers Day Speech Tips

  • First, you need to decide on the duration of your Teacher's Day speech. You can conclude it in as less time as five minutes or stretch it to as much as half an hour. However, it is the best to stick to a duration of 10 to 15 minutes, which gives you enough time to applaud your teacher, but doesn't make the speech too long and boring.
  • Mention some facts and history associated with the Teachers day like --

September 5th is Teacher's Day in India. It is the birthday of former Indian president and a teacher himself: Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president of India in 1962, some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his "birthday". In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, "Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' Day".

  • Mention the tradition and how this day is observed in india like –

This is not a holiday in India; It's called a celebration day where teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities are replaced by a mood of celebration, thanking and remembrance. At some schools on this day, the responsibility of teaching is taken up by the senior students as an appreciation for their teachers. (As a home work, kids can check with their parents how they celebrated Teachers Day as kids.)

  • You can include some famous quotes, Traditional quotes and sayings on teachers like –

In fact an old Indian saying (usually taught to children), ranks teacher in the third place, even before God: "Maata, Pitha, Guru, Daivam", meaning Mother, Father, Teacher and God. There is another saying in the form of a couplet (doha), which goes, "Guru Govind doou khare kake lagon paai? Balihari guru aap ki Govind deeo batai." meaning- I am in a fix whom to salute first: the teacher or the God. I shall choose the teacher as he is the one who is instrumental in my knowing God.

As the central piece in Hindu scriptures go - 'Guru Bramha, Guru Vishnu, Guru devo Maheshwaraha - Gurusakshath parabramha tasmai shree gurve namaha - Teacher is the holy Trinity. Teacher is the manifestation of the lord himself.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. ~William Arthur Ward

The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself. ~Edward Bulwer-Lytton

A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image. ~Author Unknown

You can find collection of quotes here http://5september-teachersday.blogspot.com/2010/08/collection-of-quotes-for-teachers-day.html

in your Teacher's Day speech. However, do make sure that the quotes pertain to the particular train of thought that you are following in the speech and do not look as if they have been added just for the heck of it. So, be very careful while choosing the quotes and sayings that will form a part of your speech.

  • You also need to decide on the flow of your speech i.e. how will the quotes and sayings will be included in the speech, what will be the opening paragraph and how will your conclude the speech. A good idea is to start the speech with a quote and end with it applause for the teachers and gratitude for the role that they play in a student's life.
  • A true teacher is not someone who just teaches academic lessons to his/her students. Rather, he/she is like a guide, who helps the students in each and every sphere of life. They are future makers. None of the achievers in this world has attained a feat without the guidance of a teacher. Teacher's Day seeks to acknowledge this very contribution of teachers. If you want to make this day special for your teachers as well, try to deliver a speech in their honor, highlighting their importance on the life of students.
  • If you want, you can include in the speech a small description about your relationship with a particular teacher and quote an incident that you specifically remember, where your teacher came to your rescue. You can dedicate a poem for your Teacher like –

(1) Teachers come and go

But every so often one comes along

Yes this is Mr. (Quote Name)

That you’ll always remember

One who makes learning an adventure…

And who can still remember

What it’s like to be young

And growing up…

The kind who can make you

Want to be the very best you can be…

Someone you can really talk to,

Who really cares

What happens to you…

That person is YOU!

(2) A Teacher Is…

Someone who is wise...

Who cares about the students and wears no disguise.

But is honest and open and shares from the heart.

Not just lessons from books, but life where you are.

A teacher takes time to help and tutor.

With English or math or on a computer.

It's (Teacher' name) who's patient, even in stress.

Who never gives less than the very best!

Not that I was the perfect student,

But you were the perfect teacher for me!

You can Find collection of Poem here http://5september-teachersday.blogspot.com/2010/08/collection-of-poem-for-teachers-poem_24.html

It will add a personal touch to the speech.

  • Though many people tend to overlook it, the speaker's voice modulation and the speed at which he/she delivers the speech are also very important. Remember, you need to maintain a moderate speed, where you speak neither too slow nor too fast. The pitch of your voice should be pleasing to the ears.

God Made Teachers

God understood our thirst for

Knowledge, and our need to be led

By someone wiser;

He needed a heart of compassion,

Of encouragement, and patience;

Someone who would accept

The challenge regardless of the

Opposition;

Someone who could see potential

And believe in the best in others . . .

So He made Teachers

Why God Made Teachers

When God created teachers,

He gave us special friends

To help us understand His world

And truly comprehend

The beauty and the wonder

Of everything we see,

And become a better person

With each discovery.

When God created teachers,

He gave us special guides

To show us ways in which to grow

So we can all decide

How to live and how to do

What's right instead of wrong,

To lead us so that we can lead

And learn how to be strong.

Why God created teachers,

In His wisdom and His grace,

Was to help us learn to make our world

A better, wiser place.

A Loving Teacher

Things our grown-up mind defies

Appear as giants in children's eyes.

A gentle touch upon her head

A simple word when kindly said.

Complete attention when she calls.

Her knowing you have given all.

Correcting in a loving way.

Instilling trust in what you say.

Making her believe unique

The tiny flaw upon her cheek.

Admiring old and faded dresses.

Reminding her we all make messes.

Words of comfort you've softly spoken

A promise you've made she knows won't be broken.

Your knowing her doll that was lost today

Is just as important as bills you can't pay.

Helping make her plans and schemes

Giving her hope and building her dreams.

All of this and so much more

Is in her mind forever stored.

They who touch her life awhile

Can either make or break that child.

Education is important, true,

But so much more, her faith in you.

You've weathered through the storm and strife;

You helped to build a small girl's life.

You're truly one to be admired.

For you gave more than was required.

Why I Went To The Foot

Why I went to the foot?

Was ever a maiden so worried?

I’ll admit I am partial to Jim,

For Jimmie has promised to wed me

When I’m old enough to wed him.

But then I love teacher, too, dearly,

She’s always so lovely to me,

And she’s pretty and kind and sweet-tempered,

And gentle as gentle can be.

I wouldn’t for worlds hurt Jim’s feelings,

For he never would like me again—

But there was my dearest, sweet teacher,

And I’d die if my words gave her pain.

“Two plus two equals what?” was the problem.

And I knew teacher thought it made “four”;

But Jimmie said “six,” and maintained it

As long as he stood on the floor.

And I saw I must soon choose between them,

For I was the next in the line.

Should I side with my teacher or Jimmie?

What a sad situation was mine!

And just as my heart with that problem

Of friendship was so sorely vexed

I was called on to answer the other,

For teacher had said, sharply, “Next!”

It was then that the brilliant thought struck me,

That by compromise I could contrive

To hurt neither teacher nor Jimmie,

And that’s how I came to say “five.”

To My Teacher

A substitute for working moms,

She comforts, pampers, soothes and calms.

With all the love she has to share,

She's great to have when mom's not there.

She loves to rock a fussy child,

Corrects the one who gets too wild.

She hears her share of tearful pleas,

And comforts those with skinned up knees.

With little children she plays a peek,

For bigger ones it's hide-and-seek.

She is an expert at each game,

But somehow loses just the same

She helps them learn the alphabet,

And gives them hugs when they're upset.

She is a true and trusted friend,

Who helps them learn and play pretend.

Although she's paid, it's plain to see,

She serves them with a love that's free

Funny Poetry For Teachers

English Lecture Coma

I think I know
What it feels like to slip into a coma.
I am sitting,
My teacher is rambling,
And my senses are going.
Slowly,
I slip
Into
Darkness...
- James Grengs

Bored To Death

I am in class taking anatomy & physiology lecture
Oh! I am so tired I can not even stare at the teacher
He is so talkative & talks too much, as he has a PHD in literature
I can not even take a note, I do not care
I can not wait to see him walk out through the door.
Monday is always boring
But, not as boring as that old slim teacher, who moves like a string
I can't take it anymore shall ask permission
- Leila Light

Where do all the teachers go?

Where do all the teachers go
When its four o’clock?
Do they live in houses
And do they wash their socks?

Do they wear pajamas?
And do they watch TV?
And do they pick their noses
The same as you and me?

Do they live with other people
Have they mums and dads?
And were they ever children
And were they ever bad?

Did they ever, never spell right
Did they ever make mistakes?
Were they punished in the corner
If they pinched the chocolate flakes?

Did they ever lose their hymn books
Did they ever leave their greens?
Did they ever scribble on the desktop
Did they wear old dirty jeans?

I’ll follow one back home today
I’ll find out what they do
Then I’ll put it in a poem
That they can read to you.

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN’T LOOKING

By Mary Rita Schilke Korzan

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you displayed my first report, and I wanted to do another.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you fed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you gave me a sticker, and I knew that little things were special things.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you put your arm around me, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt--but that it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you smiled, and it made me want to look that pretty too.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you cared, and I wanted to be everything I could be.

When you thought I wasn’t looking--I looked...and wanted to say thanks for all those things you did when you thought I wasn’t looking.

WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?

Author Unknown

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day

Seeing a little one out at play

"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile

"Mine to keep a little while

To bathe his hands and comb his hair

To tell him what he is to wear

To prepare him that he may always be good

And each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again

As the door opened and someone came in

"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile

"Mine, to keep just for a little while

To teach him how to be gentle and kind

To train and direct his dear little mind

To help him live by every rule

And get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once more

Just as the little one entered the door

"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled

And each took the hand of the little child

"Ours to love and train together

Ours this blessed task forever."

Unity

By Cleo V. Swarat

I dreamed I stood in a studio

And watched two sculptors there,

The clay they used was a young child’s mind

And they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher:

the tools she used were books and music and art;

One was a parent

With a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done,

They were proud of what they had wrought.

For the things they had worked into the child

Could never be sold or bought!

And each agreed she would have failed

if she had worked alone.

For behind the parent stood the school,

and behind the teacher stood the home!

One Hundred Years from now

(excerpt from "Within My Power" by Forest Witcraft)

One Hundred Years from now

It will not matter

what kind of car I drove,

What kind of house I lived in,

how much money was in my bank account

nor what my clothes looked like.

But the world may be a better place because

I was important in the life of a child.

THE CREATION OF THE TEACHER

Author Unknown

The Good Lord was creating teachers. It was His sixth day of 'overtime' and He knew that this was a tremendous responsibility for teachers would touch the lives of so many impressionable young children. An angel appeared to Him and said, "You are taking a long time to figure this one out."

"Yes," said the Lord, " but have you read the specs on this order?"

TEACHER:

…must stand above all students, yet be on their level

... must be able to do 180 things not connected with the subject being taught

... must run on coffee and leftovers,

... must communicate vital knowledge to all students daily and be right most of the time

... must have more time for others than for herself/himself

... must have a smile that can endure through pay cuts, problematic children, and worried parents

... must go on teaching when parents question every move and others are not supportive

... must have 6 pair of hands.

"Six pair of hands, " said the angel, "that's impossible"

"Well, " said the Lord, " it is not the hands that are the problem. It is the three pairs of eyes that are presenting the most difficulty!"

The angel looked incredulous, " Three pairs of eyes...on a standard model?"

The Lord nodded His head, " One pair can see a student for what he is and not what others have labeled him as. Another pair of eyes is in the back of the teacher's head to see what should not be seen, but what must be known. The eyes in the front are only to look at the child as he/she 'acts out' in order to reflect, " I understand and I still believe in you", without so much as saying a word to the child."

"Lord, " said the angel, " this is a very large project and I think you should work on it tomorrow".

"I can't," said the Lord, " for I have come very close to creating something much like Myself. I have one that comes to work when he/she is sick.....teaches a class of children that do not want to learn....has a special place in his/her heart for children who are not his/her own.....understands the struggles of those who have difficulty....never takes the students for granted..."

The angel looked closely at the model the Lord was creating.

"It is too soft-hearted, " said the angel.

"Yes," said the Lord, " but also tough, You can not imagine what this teacher can endure or do, if necessary".

"Can this teacher think?" asked the angel.

"Not only think," said the Lord,. "but reason and compromise."

The angel came closer to have a better look at the model and ran his finger over the teacher's cheek.

"Well, Lord, " said the angel, your job looks fine but there is a leak. I told you that you were putting too much into this model. You can not imagine the stress that will be placed upon the teacher."

The Lord moved in closer and lifted the drop of moisture from the teacher's cheek. It shone and glistened in the light.

"It is not a leak," He said, "It is a tear."

"A tear? What is that?" asked the angel, "What is a tear for?"

The Lord replied with great thought, " It is for the joy and pride of seeing a child accomplish even the smallest task. It is for the loneliness of children who have a hard time to fit in and it is for compassion for the feelings of their parents. It comes from the pain of not being able to reach some children and the disappointment those children feel in themselves. It comes often when a teacher has been with a class for a year and must say good-bye to those students and get ready to welcome a new class."

"My, " said the angel, " The tear thing is a great idea...You are a genius!!"

The Lord looked somber, "I didn't put it there."

Two More Days Till School

By: Leslie Kimmelman

I'm finally going to school this year,

and now the big day's almost here.

I'll learn to write and count and read--

Only two more days till school.

I got new pants and shirts and socks,

a brand-new red and blue lunch box;

I'll paint and sing and dance and play--

Only one more day fill school.

My hair is washed, my sneakers squeak,

I'm so excited, I can hardly speak!

New things to do, new friends to meet--

Hooray! It's the first day of school!

But every so often one comes along

That you’ll always remember

One who makes learning an adventure…

And who can still remember

What it’s like to be young

And growing up…

The kind who can make you

Want to be the very best you can be…

Someone you can really talk to,

Who really cares

What happens to you…

That person is YOU!

To My Teacher

A substitute for working moms,

She comforts, pampers, soothes and calms.

With all the love she has to share,

She's great to have when mom's not there.

She loves to rock a fussy child,

Corrects the one who gets too wild.

She hears her share of tearful pleas,

And comforts those with skinned up knees.

With little children she plays a peek,

For bigger ones it's hide-and-seek.

She is an expert at each game,

But somehow loses just the same

She helps them learn the alphabet,

And gives them hugs when they're upset.

She is a true and trusted friend,

Who helps them learn and play pretend.

Although she's paid, it's plain to see,

She serves them with a love that's free

Poem As Teacher's Day Gift

I chose this special present because I wanted you to know,

That I'm grateful for your hard work in helping me to grow.

For your constant understanding and for always being there,

To tell me I can do it and to show me that you care!

Funny Poetry For Teachers

English Lecture Coma

I think I know
What it feels like to slip into a coma.
I am sitting,
My teacher is rambling,
And my senses are going.
Slowly,
I slip
Into
Darkness...
- James Grengs

Bored To Death

I am in class taking anatomy & physiology lecture
Oh! I am so tired I can not even stare at the teacher
He is so talkative & talks too much, as he has a PHD in literature
I can not even take a note, I do not care
I can not wait to see him walk out through the door.
Monday is always boring
But, not as boring as that old slim teacher, who moves like a string
I can't take it anymore shall ask permission
- Leila Light

Where do all the teachers go?

Where do all the teachers go
When its four o’clock?
Do they live in houses
And do they wash their socks?

Do they wear pajamas?
And do they watch TV?
And do they pick their noses
The same as you and me?

Do they live with other people
Have they mums and dads?
And were they ever children
And were they ever bad?

Did they ever, never spell right
Did they ever make mistakes?
Were they punished in the corner
If they pinched the chocolate flakes?

Did they ever lose their hymn books
Did they ever leave their greens?
Did they ever scribble on the desktop
Did they wear old dirty jeans?

I’ll follow one back home today
I’ll find out what they do
Then I’ll put it in a poem
That they can read to you.

Poem to go with a teacher gift

For teaching children lessons,

to help them as they grow,

Let this gift remind you,

You're the best teacher we know!

One was a teacher:

the tools she used were books and music and art;

One was a parent

With a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done,

They were proud of what they had wrought.

For the things they had worked into the child

Could never be sold or bought!

And each agreed she would have failed

if she had worked alone.

For behind the parent stood the school,

and behind the teacher stood the home!

One Hundred Years from now

(excerpt from "Within My Power" by Forest Witcraft)

One Hundred Years from now

It will not matter

what kind of car I drove,

What kind of house I lived in,

how much money was in my bank account

nor what my clothes looked like.

But the world may be a better place because

I was important in the life of a child.

GOD MADE TEACHERS . . .

Author Unknown

God understood our thirst for

knowledge, and our need to be led

by someone wiser;

He needed a heart of compassion,

of encouragement, and patience;

Someone who would accept

the challenge regardless of the

opposition;

Someone who could see potential

and believe in the best in others . . .

So He made Teachers

Poem by Kevin William Huff

Teachers

Paint their minds

and guide their thoughts

Share their achievements

and advise their faults

Inspire a Love

of knowledge and truth

As you light the path

Which leads our youth

For our future brightens

with each lesson you teach

Each smile you lengthen

Each goal you help reach

For the dawn of each poet

each philosopher and king

Begins with a Teacher

And the wisdom they bring

Teacher's Prayer

Author Unknown

Lord, Please help me,

To strengthen their voices,

bodies and minds,

To express their feelings and

control them sometimes,

To explore what's near

and venture afar,

But most important to love

who they are.

I got new pants and shirts and socks,

a brand-new red and blue lunch box;

I'll paint and sing and dance and play--

Only one more day fill school.

My hair is washed, my sneakers squeak,

I'm so excited, I can hardly speak!

New things to do, new friends to meet--

Hooray! It's the first day of school!

Hebrew Proverb

"A child is not a vessel to be filled, but a lamp to be lit".

School Poem

Today I hurry off to school,

To work and learn and play

I'm in a brand new grade this year.

What a happy day!!!!!
